Recently, Xinhua News Agency published an article titled "The Lom Pangar Hydroelectric Power Station Brings Hope to the People of Eastern Cameroon," reporting in Chinese, English, and French on the Cameroon-based hydropower project. Undertaken by CAMCE, a member enterprise of the CMEC Group, the project is highlighted as a model of South-South cooperation.
The hydropower station is located in eastern Cameroon at the confluence of the Lom and Pangar rivers within the Sanaga Basin. It stands as one of the country's largest hydropower facilities. Funded jointly by the African Development Bank and the government of Cameroon, the project serves as a critical power source for the East Region and has garnered significant attention from both the Cameroonian government and the local populace.
CAMCE initiated the construction of the Lom Pangar Dam in 2019, with Unit 1 of the hydroelectric power station completed in May 2023. Since then, it has provided stable, reliable, clean, and economical energy to the East Region for 17 consecutive months, contributing significantly to local economic development and improvements in living standards. Moreover, it has paved the way for potential industrial growth in the region. Just recently, the final unit was completed and successfully handed over, allowing the hydroelectric power station to fully meet the electricity demands of the East Region.
