President Mohamed Muizzu of Maldives Attends Groundbreaking Ceremony for CMEC Group’s Housing Project and Inspects Project Site
On March 21, H.E. Mr. Mohamed Muizzu, President of the Maldives, attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Bank of Maldives (BML) housing project, which is being constructed by CMEC Group, and inspected the project’s office camp. He was accompanied by several cabinet ministers, including those from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, the Ministry of Social and Family and Development, and the Ministry of Health. Ambassador Kong Xianhua of China to the Maldives was also invited to attend.


At the groundbreaking ceremony, Wang Bo delivered a speech titled “Building a Community with a Shared Future and Deepening Practical Cooperation.” He elaborated on how CMEC Group’s business in the Maldives aligns with the high-quality implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative, referencing the development direction of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan. His remarks resonated strongly with the attendees. Wang Bo stated that the groundbreaking of this housing project marks another significant achievement in bilateral cooperation in the field of people’s livelihoods and will positively contribute to the Maldives’ urban development and social welfare. CMEC Group is willing to continue leveraging its comprehensive strengths in engineering design consulting, industrialized construction, and other areas to continuously broaden and deepen its cooperation with the Maldivian side, promoting mutual benefit and win-win outcomes through practical collaboration.

During his stay in the Maldives, Wang Bo was invited to Muliaage, the official residence of the Maldivian President, to brief President Muizzu on the company’s business operations in the country and present proposals for deepening cooperation. Wang Bo expressed his sincere gratitude to President Muizzu for his consistent trust, recognition, and strong support for CMEC Group, and provided a systematic review of the company’s development journey and cooperative achievements in the Maldives. He noted that there is vast potential for collaboration between the company and the Maldives in areas such as green energy transition, industrial structure optimization and upgrading, and enhancing social welfare. CMEC Group is committed to leveraging its core competencies as part of SINOMACH to make further contributions to the Maldives’ economic diversification, diversified revenue sources, and improvement of people’s livelihoods.

President Muizzu highly commended CMEC Group for its long-standing positive contributions to the socio-economic development of the Maldives, particularly in improving people’s livelihoods. He expressed his expectation for both sides to deepen cooperation in broader fields through innovative models and to advance the implementation of more projects that promote industrial development and benefit society.
