Fang Yanshui Meets with President David Adeang of Nauru

On February 9, Fang Yanshui, General Manager of China Machinery Engineering Group Corporation (CMEC Group), met in Guangzhou with H.E. David Adeang, President of the Republic of Nauru, who was visiting family in Guangdong Province. The meeting was also attended by Lyu Jin, Chinese Ambassador to Nauru, and Wang Shiyi, a deputy division head of the Department of North American and Oceanian Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China.

During the talks, Fang Yanshui extended warm congratulations to President Adeang on his re-election as President of the Republic of Nauru in October 2025, expressed sincere gratitude for the President’s gracious availability during his visit to China, and provided an overview of CMEC Group’s profile, its ongoing business progress in Nauru, and its vision for future cooperation.

Fang Yanshui conveyed heartfelt appreciation for the trust and recognition extended by President Adeang toward CMEC Group. He noted that since the resumption of diplomatic relations between China and Nauru, bilateral cooperation in political and economic fields has yielded substantial outcomes. Among these, the Nauru Phosphate Mine Expansion and Modernization Project—as the first substantive economic and trade cooperation initiative following the restoration of bilateral relations—holds significant demonstration value. He emphasized that the Republic of Nauru Phosphate Corporation (RONPhos) is a key partner of CMEC Group in Nauru, and affirmed that CMEC Group will fully leverage its strengths in engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracting, technology integration, and project management to accelerate the project’s implementation and ensure early deliverables. Furthermore, CMEC Group is fully prepared for long-term engagement in Nauru, committed to fulfilling the president’s expectations and requirements through concrete actions, supporting Nauru’s socio-economic development, actively contributing to the country’s industrial modernization, and thereby contributing its part to deepening China-Nauru friendship and cooperation.

President David Adeang expressed high appreciation and heartfelt thanks for CMEC Group’s firm commitment to Nauru’s socio-economic development. He fully acknowledged the Group’s professionalism and pragmatic approach demonstrated throughout the project advancement process, and voiced strong confidence in the comprehensive cooperation between China and Nauru facilitated by CMEC Group. The president stated that he looks forward to CMEC Group continuing to harness its advantages in advanced technologies and specialized management to steadily advance the high-quality construction and efficient operation of the project, thereby injecting enduring momentum into Nauru’s sustainable development.

Following the meeting, Fang Yanshui held a working discussion with Ambassador Lyu Jin. He expressed sincere gratitude to Ambassador Lyu for his longstanding, strong support and thoughtful guidance in enabling CMEC Group’s business operations in Nauru, and carefully listened to the Ambassador’s advice and strategic direction regarding the Group’s follow-up work plans in the country.

The meeting was accompanied by Nauruan officials including Delvin O’Neale Thoma, Minister for RONPhos, and Reagan Aliklik, Minister for Fisheries, as well as Chitra Jeremiah, Ambassador of Nauru to China. Senior representatives from CMEC Group’s 2nd Complete Plant Department also attended the meeting.
