Fang Yanshui Visits Cambodia to Advance Construction of Gas-Fired Power Plant Project

From January 5 to 6, Fang Yanshui, General Manager of China Machinery Engineering Group Corporation (CMEC Group), traveled to Koh Kong Province, Cambodia, to conduct an on-site inspection and provide strategic guidance for the ongoing 2×450MW gas-fired combined-cycle power plant project being executed by China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC), headquarters of CMEC Group. During his visit, Fang held high-level meetings with Cambodia’s Minister of Mines and Energy, the project owner, and key partners to jointly outline priorities for the New Year and ensure the timely, high-quality, and efficient advancement of this major energy infrastructure initiative.

On-Site Inspection and Construction Guidance

On January 5, Fang joined Cambodia’s Minister of Mines and Energy and the Chairman of Royal Group (Cambodia) for an on-site tour of the project, followed by an in-depth discussion session. Both sides exchanged views on the project’s current progress and upcoming construction plans, reaching strong consensus. The Cambodian side expressed appreciation for CMEC Group’s professionalism and the dedication of its project team, and voiced strong expectations for the plant’s early commissioning—anticipating that it will significantly enhance Cambodia’s energy mix and drive sustained socio-economic development.

The delegation conducted a detailed walkthrough of the construction site, reviewing progress, safety protocols, quality management systems, and overall site organization. They also received specialized briefings on key aspects of the project. Mr. Fang commended the project’s current momentum—characterized by steady progress across all work zones, well-organized site management, and efficient operations. He urged all participating contractors and the CMEC project team to further strengthen coordination and process control, adhere to the highest standards, and deliver a project of exceptional quality, aiming to establish the Koh Kong gas-fired power plant as a flagship model of China-Cambodia energy cooperation.

Strengthening Partnership and Charting the Way Forward

On January 6, Mr. Fang held talks with the Chairman and senior leadership of Royal Group (Cambodia). The two sides engaged in substantive discussions on critical issues and reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing communication and collaboration to ensure smooth project implementation.

Accompanying Mr. Fang on the visit were Tian Zheng, Chief Financial Officer of CMEC Group; senior representatives from the Group’s Fifth Complete Plant Department; and officials from China Ocean Engineering Construction Corporation Limited.

The gas-fired power plant project in Cambodia represents a landmark undertaking for CMEC Group in Southeast Asia’s power sector. It not only showcases the Group’s leading capabilities in energy and power engineering and the high standards of “Made in China” infrastructure, but also serves as a concrete contribution to the high-quality advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative cooperation. As a symbol of deepening traditional friendship and practical collaboration between China and Cambodia, the project is delivering tangible support to regional energy sustainability and long-term development.
