Wang Bo Meets with Chinese Ambassador to Uzbekistan and Chairs CMEC Group Roundtable
Recently, Mr. Wang Bo, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of CMEC Group, visited Uzbekistan, where he paid a courtesy call on H.E. Yu Jun, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Uzbekistan. During his visit, Mr. Wang also chaired a roundtable discussion on CMEC Group’s operations in Uzbekistan.
Mr. Wang expressed sincere gratitude to the Chinese Embassy for its longstanding support and guidance. He provided a comprehensive overview of CMEC Group’s development journey, strategic layout, and current operations of its member enterprises in Uzbekistan, with a particular focus on progress made in the Olympic City project. He emphasized that CMEC Group will leverage the comprehensive advantages of its parent company SINOMACH—including broad industrial coverage, strong R&D capabilities, a high level of internationalization, and a complete industrial chain—to align more deeply with Uzbekistan’s national development strategy of “New Uzbekistan.” CMEC Group aims to contribute to Uzbekistan’s industrial upgrading and improvement of people’s well-being, while promoting higher-level and higher-quality Belt and Road cooperation, and playing an active role in advancing the all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Uzbekistan in the new era.
Ambassador Yu Jun highly commended CMEC Group and its member enterprises for their positive contributions to Uzbekistan’s development. He noted that the Olympic City project, as the first international project in Central Asia financed through a sovereign commercial loan in RMB, has become a flagship example for Chinese enterprises operating in the country. Ambassador Yu provided a detailed overview of Uzbekistan’s wide-ranging reforms and open policies introduced since 2016, and underscored the importance of seizing the strategic opportunities presented by the all-weather comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Uzbekistan. He encouraged Chinese enterprises to expand cooperation with government departments and business institutions in Uzbekistan, and to continue to contribute expertise and efforts to the long-term friendship and strategic collaboration between the two countries.
Later, Mr. Wang chaired a roundtable at the Olympic City Project Office to review CMEC Group’s operations in Uzbekistan. He conducted a comprehensive assessment of the Group’s member enterprises operating in the country, focusing on areas such as project execution, construction management, technical coordination, and workplace safety. He also outlined key work requirements:
First, he stressed the need to strengthen capacity building by enhancing both professional technical capabilities and localized operational competence, in order to consolidate and elevate the Group’s international presence and operational performance.
Second, he called for the cultivation of core competitiveness. Member enterprises in Uzbekistan should deepen professional alignment, improve resource sharing, and leverage their respective strengths. Through positive interaction and collaborative value creation, the companies can empower one another, enhance CMEC Group’s overall influence in Uzbekistan, and promote the unified brand image of SINOMACH.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr. Wang delivered a specialized training session titled “Fostering Patriotism, Upholding Discipline, and Safeguarding High-Quality Belt and Road Cooperation.” The session addressed key aspects of overseas compliance, including immigration and travel regulations, management of overseas funds and assets, and standards for overseas operations. It provided targeted anti-corruption and professional conduct guidance for the Group’s overseas representatives and attendees.
The event was attended by heads of CMEC Group member enterprises operating in Uzbekistan, as well as officials responsible for the Olympic City project.
