CMEC Signs O&M Contract for Salah al-Din Power Plant Project
On May 12, Wang Bo, chairman of CMEC, met with General Manager Walid Fayyad from the Senior Delegation of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity at CMEC. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on furthering the operation & maintenance cooperation of Iraq’s Salah al-Din Power Station as well as on the future strategic synergy. After the meeting, the representatives of both sides signed the Phase-III Operation & Maintenance Contract for Iraq Salah al-Din 2X630MW Oil/Gas Fired Power Plant Project.
At the meeting, Chairman Wang Bo welcomed General Manager Walid and highly appreciated the long-standing mutual trust and win-win relationship between the two sides. He said that Salah al-Din Power Station with the largest single-unit capacity in Iraq has been commissioned in 2023, featuring excellent unit performance and steady power generation efficiency. It had completed its first-year power generation task 13 days ahead of schedule and its second-year task on April 13, 2025. These achievements embodied the CMEC team’s professional perseverance and hardworking spirit. As such, CMEC Group’s thanks went to the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity for its long-term trust and support. Mr. Wang hoped that the two sides would build on the existing friendly and cooperative relationship to carry out all-round cooperation in more areas like power generation capacity expansion, technology upgrading and power plant overhauling, so as to inject strong momentum into Iraq’s economic recovery and industrialisation.
GM Walid spoke highly of CMEC’s professional strength and performance capability. He said that the steady operation of the power plant had greatly alleviated the electricity shortage in northern Iraq, improving people’s well-being and facilitating the economic development. The Iraqi Ministry of Electricity expressed high respect for the project team’s perseverance over the years and fully recognised the track records. Mr. Walid promised that the Iraqi side would endeavour to address CMEC’s current concerns and provide a lasting impetus for future cooperation.
Also attending the signing ceremony were Deputy General Manager Xie Ke of CMEC Group and the chief of the 1st Complete Plants Division as well as heads of the senior delegation of the Iraqi Ministry of Electricity.
