Recently, Wang Bo, chairman of China Machinery Engineering Group Corporation (CMEC Group), paid a visit to Ni Ruchi, Chinese Ambassador to Bahrain, during his stay in the Kingdom of Bahrain. He conducted a fact-finding investigation on Bahrain’s Sitra affordable housing project.

During the meeting with Chinese Ambassador Ni Ruchi, Chairman Wang Bo expressed his gratitude on behalf of CMEC Group for the embassy’s long-standing support and guidance. He introduced CMEC Group’s development history, strategic arrangements and main business. He stressed that CMEC Group would utilise SINOMACH’s advantages in the machinery industry, such as wide coverage, strong R&D, highly internationalisation and complete industrial chain, to matchmake itself with Bahrain’s Economic Development Vision 2030, implement the strategy of local operation, and focus on developing the projects for industrial engineering and people’s well-being. By doing so, the Group would help expedite Bahrain’s industrialisation, upgrade the industrial structure, and enhance people’s well-being, so as to make more contributions to the development of the China-Bahrain comprehensive strategic partnership.

Ambassador Ni Ruchi extended a warm welcome to Chairman Wang Bo and highly commended the social effects of CMEC Group’s high-quality project performance in Bahrain. The Ambassador pointed out that the Sitra affordable housing project has developed into a model one for China-Bahrain cooperation, serving as a gold-lettered signboard for Chinese enterprises in Bahrain’s market. In May 2024 when the King of Bahrain visited China, the two countries established a comprehensive strategic partnership. The China-Bahrain economic and trade cooperation has been elevated to a new height. The Ambassador expected CMEC Group to seize the strategic opportunity of deepening bilateral relations, expand all-round cooperation with Bahrain’s government departments and industrial & commercial organizations, and make contributions to achieving Bahrain’s Vision 2030.

At the Bahrain affordable housing project site, Mr. Wang Bo conducted a fact-finding investigation, inspected the progress of construction, focused on checking project quality and production safety, and expressed his greetings to the frontline staff and foreign employees.

Wang listened to the project team’s work report, gained a full understanding of the overall situation and specific tasks including construction management, technical management and localisation management, and presented four work requirements as follows.

First, the project team needs to consolidate the first-mover advantage and persist in doing what is right, even if it is challenging. The smooth implementation of CMEC Bahrain WLL’s Sitra affordable housing project has established a good reputation for CMEC Group in the Bahraini market. The project team must always maintain a sense of urgency, consolidate the hard-won first-mover advantage, and use SINOMACH’s outstanding technical strength to make innovations in areas like new construction methods and green buildings, so as to give a technological boost to the housing construction.

Second, CMEC Bahrain WLL needs to pinpoint the market orientation and continue to do a good job in the roll-up development of country-specific markets. To meet the demand of the Bahraini housing market, it is essential to develop new project development models and focus on creating value for customers. By pinpointing the market orientation and doing a good job in the roll-up development of country-specific markets, CMEC Bahrain WLL needs to create sustainable value for customers and foster new business growth points for itself.

Third, it is essential to increase horizontal development efforts to ensure the sustainable development of overseas subsidiaries. It is the core task of divisions’ corporatization to accelerate the transformation of overseas subsidiaries into market entities that fully calculate costs and operate on a self-financing basis. With a solid foundation for local operation and human resources, CMEC Bahrain has achieved good business results. It needs to fully leverage its brand influence to expand its business into related fields such as large public works, municipal engineering, and port and waterway construction. By diversifying its business portfolio, CMEC Bahrain can enhance operational resilience and strengthen the foundation for the sustainable development.

Fourth, it is important to develop vertically to enhance the operational capabilities of local subsidiaries. Subsidiaries need to fully integrate SINOMACH’s entire industrial-chain resources and boost the high-quality development of EPC general contracting. With a focus on key areas, they need to explore an integrated model of investment, construction and operation based on local conditions, and enhance the overall competitiveness by vertically connecting the industrial value chain.

Heads of CMEC’s Urban Construction Division, CMEC Bahrain WLL, and China IPPR International Engineering Co., Ltd. under CMEC Group also attended the above activities.
