On April 14, an exchange symposium, with the theme of “Learning and Practicing Xi Jinping's Economic Thought, Reviewing SOEs’ Participation in BRI and Experiencing Economic Development in the New Era”, was jointly held in the conference hall on the fourth floor of CMEC Group Headquarters’ building by CMEC Group and the Third Bureau and Economic Liaison Center of the International Liaison Department of the CPC Central Committee (“ILD” for short hereinafter).

About 40 comrades from the ILD side attended the meeting, including Director Peng Yong, Deputy Director Liu Jinghua and Deputy Director Yang Song of the Economic Liaison Center, Deputy Director Yu Wei of the Third Bureau, Zhu Shuifei, Wang Kang, and members of the two Party Branches. Attendees from the side of CMEC Group include Party Secretary and Chairman Wang Bo, Party committee members and vice presidents Tong Zigang and Li Kan of the Group, Party committee member and assistant general manager Huang Kaili of CAMCE, and comrades in charge of relevant departments from CMEC and CAMCE. The symposium was presided over by Tong Zigang.

On behalf of CMEC Group, Wang Bo expressed a warm welcome to the visit of leaders and comrades of ILD. He pointed out that this symposium, as a joint learning and Party building activity, is an innovative attempt by Party and state organs to go deep into the front line of central SOEs to guide and promote their business through Party building.

Wang thanked the Third Bureau and Economic Liaison Center of ILD for building a BRI economic and trade cooperation platform for CMEC Group and its member companies, and introduced the background of the establishment of CMEC Group and the history, professional features and outstanding performance of its member companies. He highlighted the three distinctive features of CMEC Group: strong international operation strength; high qualification level and complete industrial chain; practicing the BRI and spreading Chinese engineering value as its mission. Wang also reported on CMEC Group's construction projects in West Asia and North Africa, and the important role these projects play in promoting local socio-economic development and improving people's livelihood.

Peng Yong thanked CMEC Group for its support to the China-Lebanon Business Dialogue, an event hosted by the Economic Liaison Center. He introduced the work of ILD from the perspective that the Party's international liaison work is "an important front of the Party, an important part of the overall national diplomacy, and an important embodiment of the great-power diplomacy with Chinese characteristics". After a briefing about the Party building work and actual business of the Economic Liaison Center, Peng said that the Center is willing to play a bridging role in helping CMEC Group "go global".

Yu Wei introduced the Third Bureau of ILD from six aspects: scope of competence, Party building work, business work, strategic positioning, service means, and organizational goals. He said that Party members at ILD have made a lot of efforts in telling the story of the Communist Party of China and improving the international community's understanding and knowledge of the CPC. The Third Bureau is willing to strengthen cooperation with CMEC Group and jointly promote the in-depth implementation of BRI in West Asia and North Africa in the future, he pledged.

Huang Kaili and Director Lin Zhouming of CMEC Party Committee Work Department introduced the Party building work of CAMCE and CMEC respectively.

Vice General Manager and Party Secretary Zhao Wenke of the Fifth Complete Plants Division of CMEC made a report on the work of the overseas Party branch of Thar Coal Mine.

Liu Bei, member of the organization committee of the Party Branch of the Second Engineering Division of CAMCE and deputy general representative of CAMCE Representative Office in Angola, delivered a speech titled "I am only 300 meters away from the artillery fire" to report on the Party Branch’s front-line work abroad.

Wang Bo and Peng Yong made concluding remarks at the end of the meeting. They fully affirmed the significance of this joint learning and Party building event and put forward expectations and suggestions for the next step of close and pragmatic cooperation between the two sides.

The symposium was successfully concluded in a warm atmosphere. It further enhanced the understanding and interaction between CMEC Group and the Third Bureau and Economic Liaison Center of ILD. Through mutual learning and collective thinking, the participants discussed problems, shared their insights, practices and experience, and formed a strong consensus on Party building, fully demonstrating the importance of promoting high-quality development with high-quality Party building.
