On March 30, China Construction Industry Association released the result of 2020 China Construction Engineering Luban Prize for Overseas Project. The Soyo I combined-cycle power plant construction & installation project, for which CMEC serves as the main contractor, won the prize. Before this, CMEC had won the prize twice for its EREN (1+1)*600MW supercritical coal-fired power plant in Turkey and Bielizof Combined-cycle Power Plant in Belarus, respectively.

The construction of the Soyo combined-cycle power plant started on December 2015. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all parties involved, the project has been completed on time, with high quality and passed the acceptance check of the Angolan side, and obtained the PAC certificate on June 28, 2019.

Since it was put into operation, the power plant has been in good conditions, gaining high praises from the Chinese and Angolan governments and the public. The Angolan president and other government leaders have visited the power plant for several times, speaking highly of the high-standard construction and smooth operations of the power plant. In addition, the project won 2020 China Prize for High-quality Electric Projects in June 2020.

The Luban Prize is the highest honor for construction quality in China's construction industry. The honor for the project indicates that CMEC’s engineering quality management and overseas projects perform the highest standard of the industry. It is a recognition and the award for the close cooperation and joint efforts of CMEC, all members of the project team, and relevant departments and organizations, and will surely further promote the implementation and quality management of CMEC’s overseas engineering projects.
