CMEC Convenes a Special Meeting on Implementing the Guiding Principle of the Video Conference on Workplace Safety of Central Enterprises

On the morning of July 29, CMEC convened a special video meeting on implementing the guiding principle of the Video Conference on Workplace Safety of Central Enterprises. A total of 80 persons attended the meeting, including CMEC Deputy General Manager Tong Zigang, some members of the General Office of CMEC Committee for Workplace Safety, leaders of business units and subsidiaries (including those units with CMEC as a host) in charge of safety, and safety managers. The meeting was presided over by CMEC Chief Safety Officer Qian Xuegang.

At the meeting, Qian, first of all, conveyed the guiding principles of the Video Conference on Workplace Safety of Central Enterprises and relevant files of higher authorities. Ren Hongbin, Vice Chairman of SASAC and Member of CPC SASAC Committee, stressed in a speech entitled Take Strong Measures to Guard Against Accidents and Disasters and Ensure Workplace Safety and Flood Prevention of Central Enterprises that we must intensively study and apply the important instructions of General Secretary Xi Jinping on flood control and disaster relief, and mobilize, arrange and implement the work related to workplace safety in the flood season. To address the problems arising from frequent accidents and disasters in the recent period, we must further unify our thinking, raise the level of our understanding, and take decisive measures to eliminate hidden dangers of accident and improve workplace safety of central enterprises. SASAC Deputy Secretary General Zhuang Shuxin reported at the meeting 10 major accidents (disasters) related to workplace safety of central enterprises in 2020, which have resulted in a death toll of 38. He pointed out that accidents related to workplace safety of central enterprises occurred frequently in the recent period. 10 major accidents (disasters) have occurred to central enterprises since 2020 in spite of the protracted work and production shutdown due to COVID-19, showing that central enterprises are faced with a severe situation of workplace safety. SINOMACH Deputy General Manager Ding Hongxiang put forward five requirements on implementing the Video Conference on Workplace Safety of Central Enterprises.

After that, Qian put forward the following requirements on the recent work related to workplace safety in accordance with the instructions of CMEC leaders: raise the understanding, immediately convene the meeting of CMEC Committee for Workplace Safety or special meeting on workplace safety, convey the general principle of the Video Conference on Workplace Safety of Central Enterprises and effectively implement the requirements put forward by CMEC on the video conference, launch a one-month campaign for checking workplace hidden dangers since now, and compile the information on relevant meetings and the results of screening for workplace safety hidden dangers for reference.

At the end of the meeting, Tong made a concluding remark, emphasizing that though we made remarkable achievements in workplace safety in the first half of the year and relevant problems are under the control at present, the second half of the year is likely to see great pressures on workplace safety due to work production, construction for meeting tight deadlines and emotional fluctuations of overseas employees. Therefore, we need to attach great importance to workplace safety, give priority to workplace safety and overseas pandemic control, keep vigilant, get rid of fluke mind and continue to work hard, so as to keep a good record of our workplace safety and overseas pandemic prevention and control.
