On May 15, local time, Serbia KOSTOLAC-B Power Station Phase II Project undertaken by CMEC successfully started concreting the boiler foundation.

The boiler foundation of 9,657 cubic meters represents the largest-volume concrete-pouring operation in the project. Before the concreting, the project department organized many special discussions and carefully planned the concreting scheme. The boiler foundation was divided into four operation sections, with separated silos poured. The pouring of 1,773.5 cubic meters featured long operation duration and technical difficulty. During the pouring, all the staff of the project department focused on serving on-site concreting and laid equal emphasis on safety and quality by dividing themselves into two shifts of day and night and working continuously and alternately. The pouring operation started at 6:08 a.m. local time on May 15 and was accomplished at 00:48 a.m. on May 16.

Affected by the global novel coronavirus pandemic, the construction personnel could not be effectively supplemented, despite the approved construction drawings and the expanding on-site construction area. The project department has fulfilled the requirements for the duration, progress, quality, and safety. Through active coordination, overall planning, and close cooperation with all subcontractors, 49 workers were assigned to the completion of the installation of 2,000-plus tons of steel bars in less than 3 months. Following the completion of the foundation pouring through the electric dust removal on May 13, CMEC’s project department made persistent efforts to ensure the accomplishment of the boiler foundation.

This epidemic was a demanding test for the project department, while this operation was a tough challenge. The dual difficulties not only tested the construction management and organization ability of the project department but also showcased the rigorous conduct and lofty sense of mission of the department’s leadership team, as well as the work style of all the staff members who have united as one to work with a pioneering and dauntless spirit. The successful completion of this operation has created favorable conditions for meeting the goal of hoisting boiler structures on schedule in the second half of the year.
