CMEC organized“2019 Pakistan-China Agricultural Cooperation Forum

On October 30, 2019, a delegation headed by CMEC Party Secretary and Chairman Zhang Chun and Vice General Manager Fang Yanshui went to Pakistan’s Islamabad to attend the “2019 Pakistan-China Agricultural Cooperation Forum” organized by CMEC. Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing and Pakistani President Arif Alvi attended and addressed the opening ceremony. Over 300 persons were present at the forum, including high-level Pakistani officials Pakistani National Food Security and Research Minister Sahabzada Muhammad Mehboob Sultan, Pakistani Ministry of National Food Security and Research Federal Secretary Muhammad Hashim Popalzai, and Balochistan Governor Amanullah Khan Yasinzai, as well as experts and representatives from the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, YTO Group Corporation, and Chinese and Pakistani agricultural firms and organizations.

At the forum, Arif Alvi and Yao Jing jointly inaugurated the “Pakistan-China Agricultural Cooperation Exchange Center”, together with the 11 organizers of the two countries. During the forum, officials of competent agricultural departments, experts of scientific research institutions and representatives of entrepreneurs from the two countries discussed about such issues as cotton planting, animal husbandry, aquaculture, agricultural mechanization, deep processing of agricultural and sideline products, and trade of agricultural products.

Zhang said in his speech that as Chinese President Xi Jinping stressed that China and Pakistan are all-weather strategic partners and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor is becoming a model for international cooperation for win-win outcomes. Now, CMEC is gradually shifting from operating in the energy, electricity and infrastructure fields to making diversified investments in agriculture and improving people’s livelihood, and take this activity as an opportunity for starting to make new contributions in the agricultural fields of Pakistan.

Yao noted in his speech that both China and Pakistan attach great importance to agricultural development. The governments of the two countries have reached consensuses on agricultural cooperation and pledged to promote the cooperation in a wider scope and at deeper levels. He hoped that Chinese and Pakistani agricultural companies strengthen coordination and communication, and carry out extensive cooperation in the fields of trade of high value-added agricultural products, agricultural technology transfer, agricultural joint ventures, and third-party market development, etc. Sultan said that the success of the forum will give a boost to the cooperation between the two sides, the Pakistani Ministry of National Food Security and Research welcomes Chinese agricultural firms to establish joint ventures in Pakistan, welcomes Chinese agricultural scientific research institutions to carry out technology cooperation in Pakistan, and will provide Chinese institutions with convenient conditions and supports.

Arif Alvi extended his congratulations on the success of the forum. He said that, as the all-round Chinese-Pakistani cooperation is expanding to the agricultural field, Pakistan will actively draw on advanced agricultural technologies of China, introduce China’s advanced agricultural resources, export more agricultural products to China, and strive to increase its agricultural development quality and farmers’ income, so as to make the results of the Chinese-Pakistani agricultural cooperation benefit the people of the two countries.

The event made a hit and was greatly supported and participated by the President’s Offices, Ministry of National Food Security and Research, Agricultural Research Council, Board of Investment of Pakistan, agricultural departments of Pakistani provinces, the Chinese Embassy in Pakistan, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences, China Agricultural Association for International Exchange, China Animal Agriculture Association, as well as Chinese and Pakistani enterprises.

During the forum, Zhang and Fang met with heads of Pakistan Business Council and some well-known local agricultural enterprises, respectively. The two sides exchanged views on and discussed about the opportunities for agricultural cooperation in Pakistan.
