CMEC Enters into Contract with Kazakhstan Partner for Mining and Processing Complex

The CMEC has signed a contract with BaKaF Engineering Ltd. in Kazakhstan to jointly build a mining and processing complex with annual capacity of 3 million tons of raw coal on the site of the first Dubovskaya mine site in Karaganda region of Kazakhstan.

In accordance with the contract, the scope of the project includes the construction of a coal mine with annual production capacity of 3 million tons of raw coal and its affiliated coal preparation plant. CMEC, as the general contractor, will be responsible for the design, procurement of equipment, construction, installation, commissioning, training and other works of the project following general EPC terms.

The contract value amounts to $600 million. As stipulated in the contract, the project will commence construction upon the satisfaction of certain conditions precedent. The construction of the project will be divided into three sections including the D6 Coal Seam Section measuring 200 meters underground, the DID2 Coal Seam Section with 500 meters underground and the coal preparation plant section. The entire project is expected to be finished in four years.

The project represents another breakthrough CMEC made in the Kazakhstan market after its successful expansion of the third power plant in Karaganda region. It has laid solid foundation for long-term operation of CMEC in Kazakhstan where the Belt and Road Initiative originated.
