Celebration for Successful Grid Connection of Two Generator Units of the Pakistan Thar Power Station Phase-I Project

The No. 2 generator unit of the Pakistan Thar Power Station Phase-I Project achieved its first grid-connected power generation on March 18, and subsequently the No. 1 generator unit smoothly completed its first grid-connected power generation on April 4.
  
On April 10, a celebration was held for the successful grid connection of the two generator units of the project. Mr. Wang Yu, Consul-General of the People’s Republic of China in Karachi, Mr. Bilawal Bhutto, Chairman of the Pakistan People's Party, Mr. Murad Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh Province, Mr. Ghias Khan, President of Engro Corporation Limited, representatives from all walks of life, resident representatives from Thar, representatives of participant units and the news media were invited to attend the celebration. General Manager Li Kan of the 5th Complete Plants Division of CMEC attended the celebration on behalf of CMEC. Mr. Han Xiaojun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Committee and President of CMEC offered his congratulations through video.
  
Before the celebration, Mr. Bilawal Bhutto, Mr. Murad Ali Shah and other delegates visited the coal mine stope, storage yard and power plant coal unloading, coal conveying system, boiler, steam turbine, GIS and other main equipment and systems, learned about the whole process of production and power generation of the coal-electricity integration project, and pressed the grid connection operation button in person at the central control room to connect the electricity generated by the Thar Power Station to the national grid of Pakistan.
  
Mr. Wang Yu, Consul-General of the PRC in Karachi, congratulated on the smooth grid connection of the two generator units of the Thar Power Station Phase-I Project and expressed gratitude to the Chinese and Pakistani governments for their support to the project. Two years after his visit to the project in 2017, earth-shaking changes have taken place to the project construction and the Thar region driven by the project. In addition, he stressed that the Thar coal-electricity integration project, as a China-Pakistan economic corridor project, was not only the cooperation between China and Pakistan, but also gathered the participation of the United States, Japan, Germany and other countries in technology and equipment, which proved that the corridor project and the Belt and Road initiative were open, cooperative and win-win policies.
  
Mr. Bilawal Bhutto said that the successful power generation of the Thar Power Station project would benefit the entire Pakistan and that Thar would be a pride of Pakistan. The successful realization of "Thar Dream" marked the result of China-Pakistan cooperation and a model of successful Public Private Partnership (PPP). He expressed gratitude to the construction workers from China and Pakistan for their hard work. He stressed that Thar Power Station was a real "megaproject" and would become the most successful power station in Pakistan. He also undertook to strengthen the construction of infrastructure and education in Thar based on the Thar project.
  
According to the schedule, the Thar Power Station project will enter the 168 trial and final test stage in the next phase, and is expected to be put into commercial operation in June 2019.
