At 11:18PM, July 31, 2018 (local time), the reverse power supply of the Pakistani Thar Block II 2x330MW Coal-fired Power Plant Project, which was undertaken by CMEC, was successfully completed, indicating that the unit has entered the step-by-step stage in an all-around way, laying a solid foundation for the launching of the whole unit.

Due to the adverse conditions of tight schedule, heavy task, requirements for diverse disciplines, and poor environment, the project office set up a command office for ensuring successful reverse power supply, cooperated with construction, commissioning and operation organizations in the aspects of supply of electricity, adjustment, fire control, ventilation, and civil construction, and its members worked overtime in spite of the hot weather and sand storm. Thanks to scientific planning and meticulous organization, the project office finally completed the installation of GIS, transformer, electric reactor, and fire extinguishing system on time, conducted the special tests such as 500KV high-voltage equipment AC voltage withstand and partial discharge, carried out all system tests related to reverse power supply, conducted the line protection test witnessed by the National Transmission and Dispatch Company (NTDC), and completed all installation and adjustment documents required by independent electric grid engineers.

The reverse power supply started at 7PM, July 31. It was deployed and coordinated by CMEC as general contractor and directed by the adjustment team of the Northwest Electric Power Test Research Institute. The installation work was undertaken by the No.1 Company of Hebei Power Construction Corporation and the No.1 Company of Hubei Power Construction Corporation, and the technical supports were provided by equipment manufacturers. Supervised by the Pakistani owner, the project was operated by electricians of the China Huadian Corporation Operation Company. The whole process is checked, recorded, verified and accepted in strict accordance with the service power receiving procedures without fail. The operating process was fast-paced and in an orderly way. The equipments in all power-receiving areas operated properly and in good conditions. All the protection actions were accurate and the energy power supply auto-switchover was successfully completed, reaching the expected goal.

As a priority project of China’s “Belt & Road” initiative and the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, and the first integrated coal-electricity project of Pakistan, the project is of great political significance. The successful reverse power supply represents another staged result of CMEC since its taking part in the project, further advancing the grid-connected operation of the unit.
