The Innovation Cup BIM Design Competition organized by China Engineering & Consulting Association (CECA) is currently the highest-level, most widely influential and most mature BIM application competition in China. Its entries represent the highest level of domestic BIM application. Recently, the two BIM application projects, Maldives Housing Phase II Project and Underground Pipe Network Survey Project of Changsha City, submitted by China Machinery and International Engineering Design & Research Institute Co., LTD (CMIE) in the competition, respectively won Residential Architecture BIM Application Award and Integrated Municipal Administration Excellent BIM Application Award, which not only proves CMIE’s influence in BIM application, but also directly affirms the efforts made by all the departments of CMIE. 

By utilizing BIM technology, the two projects conducted a lot of simulation and optimization work in the design phase, completed the application of cost control and project management assistance in the construction phase, and submitted the 3D visualization platform for operation and maintenance management to realize digital delivery. This competition had a total of 470 entries. It offered a few awards for the full life cycle, general contracting, green design, project construction and application development, including the Best Application Award for one winner, the Outstanding Application Award for 2-3 winners, the BIM Popularization & Application Award and BIM Application Rising Star Awards for several winners. A number of representative BIM application projects, such as Shanghai Disney, Shanghai Tower and China Zun (Z15 Tower), won awards in the previous competitions and were widely publicized through the competition.
